This study attempted
to identify the level of competency among the BEE college student of Philippine Normal University, Agusan Campus from School
Year 1998 – 2001. Specifically, the following questions were pursued in this study.

2. Which subject/s where the college graduates perceived
them as strong? Which areas that they are weak?
3. Which areas should be strengthened in the LET reviews?
Hypothesis
The level of competency of the PNU, Agusan Campus college graduates as perceived by them is satisfactory in
all subject areas.
Significance of the Study
This study will serve as the
basis for the administration to evaluate the content of the subjects, curriculum offerings, instructions, methods and technologies
and school facilities.
Likewise, the administration
will be able to look for remedial measures to upgrade the areas where college students are found weak. In addition, competencies
acquired by the LET passers will give insights in evaluating the test results.
Finally information provided
in the investigation are guide to students who are interested to take education courses.
Scope and Limitations
The researcher was limiting
the study on the competencies acquired by the Philippine Normal University Agusan Campus LET passers during 1998 – 2001
examinations. The respondents of this study were graduates of Bachelor in Elementary Education.
They come from the provinces
of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur. These
towns are Bayugan, Bunawan,
Prosperidad, San Francisco, Santa Josefa, Talacogon, Trento and Lianga.
METHODOLOGY
This chapter concentrates on the discussion of the methods
of research used on the study; the respondents of the study and the consequent statistical analysis employed to come up with
the answers to the problems.
Research Design
The study utilized the descriptive method of research
on the ground that the study is mainly on the LET passers of the Philippine Normal University – Agusan Campus year 1998
– 2001. This type of research method describes systematically the facts and characteristics of a given population or
area of interests factually and accurately.
Sevilla, Ochave et. Al of 1984 averred that the descriptive
method of research is useful when seeks to determine the status of a certain event or phenomena.
Subject of the Study
The subject of the study were the graduates of the Philippine
Normal University – Agusan Campus in the year 1998 – 2001 who passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers. All
of the subjects were graduates in Bachelor in Elementary Education of the said institution.
The total numbers of the passers were 734 but the researcher’s
target population was only 126 or 17 % of the total population, taken as samples.
The population frame of the study consisted of one – hundred
twenty six (126) LET passers of Philippine Normal University – Agusan Campus years 1998 – 2001.
Out of one hundred six (126) respondents of the study, twenty seven
(27) were males representing about 21.43 percent of the sample and hence ninety nine (99) were females representing the remaining
78.57 percent of the samples.
Respondents of the Study
The one hundred seventy six (126) respondents were selected
using the convenient sampling. Those selected respondents who departed on their addresses, were replaced by those available
respondents who graduated in PNU – AC and passers also of the LET in the year 1998 – 2001.
According to Sevilla (1984) stated that convenient sampling
is a sampling strategy based on the convenience of the research.
For the identification of the respondents, lists of LET passers of
the Philippine Normal University, Agusan Campus specifically from 1998 – 2001 were provided by the head of the Research
Center from this institution.
The identified LET passers
and their addresses were verified. The researcher then asked the help of the present college students of Philippine Normal
University in distributing the questionnaires.
Questionnaires were
distributed by the LET passers of 1998 – 2001 to the towns of Bayugan, Prosperidad, San Francisco, Bunawan, Trento,
Talacougon, and Sta. Josefa all of the province of Agusan del Sur. The same set of questionnaires were also distributed to
the respondents of Barobo and Lianga of the province of Surigao del Sur.
Research Instrument
Structured
questionnaire and rating scale were the materials and instruments to gather data regarding the competencies of the LET passers
of 1998 – 2001.
Steps were
under taken before the final structured questionnaires were distributed to the respondents.
First, the
researcher looked into the subject areas covered in the Licensure Examination for teachers. Subjects and its component were
noted as the basis for gathering information regarding their perceived competencies.
The
set of questionnaires contained the following subject areas : they are English; Filipino; Mathematics; Natural Sciences; Social
Sciences; Foundations of Education and Human Growth and Development; Principles and Strategies in Teaching; Measurement and
Evaluation and Social Philosophies.
Perceptions
of the respondents’ competencies were sought. The instrument utilized the rating scale of 1 to 5 in relation to their
perceived competencies.
Range Scale

1.50 – 2.49 2 Poor
2.50 – 3.49 3

3.50 – 4.49 4

Statistical Treatment
The researcher
used the mean computation to identify the status of the competencies of the LET passers. The percentage was also utilized
by the researcher to give a full view of the raw data.
