THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING
Introduction
There are several criteria
on analyzing schools to be effective. Vision/Mission is one criterion. Duke (1990), in the study of Montil (1996), expresses
it as "a view of what is desirable. It can inspire and motivate people to work towards improvement." For Fink and Stolls (1993),
in the study of Montil, the characteristics of school growth for successful and improving schools are the following: (a) the
development of a school mission; (b) development of a shared vision; (c) setting a climate of trust and openness; (d) promoting
of a staff collegiality.
The purpose of the study
is to investigate the extent of the relevance and acceptability of Philippine Normal University-Agusan Campus Vision, Mission,
Goals and Objectives to the following respondents: Undergraduate, Faculty, Staff, Alumna/Alumnus, and parents.
Each individual is
guided by his/her philosophy, vision, mission and goals in his/her day to day existence. In the same manner, every agency’s
transactions, programs, and activities are structured in accordance to its Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives.
Philippine Normal University
Agusan Campus has been existing for 35 years already. Its operation is guided by the Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives
of the entire Philippine Normal University system. It was only in 2001 that the Philippine Normal University Agusan Campus
formulated its Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives. These Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives became the bases in planning,
executing, evaluating programs and activities to answer the needs of the times.
So far, no study has been conducted
as regards the relevance and acceptability of the PNU-Agusan Campus Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives, hence this study
is proposed. Should the relevance and acceptability of the PNU Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives be known, measures can
be made to strengthen/improve the weaknesses if there are any.
This study aimed to answer the following questions:
1. What is the extent of the relevance of the Philippine Normal University
Agusan Campus Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives?
2. What is the extent of the acceptability of the Philippine Normal
University Agusan Campus Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives?
3. Is there a significant difference in the responses of the respondents
based on their classification?
